Second edition, 260 ff., quarto, 209:165 mm., lacks title and approbation ff., f.1-f tear with loss of several letters, wide margins, light age staining, blue paper. A good copy loose in later boards, rubbed and taped.

 

Detail Description

R. Ze'ev Wolf of Zhitomir (d. 1800), hasidic preacher, disciple of R. Dov Baer, the Maggid of Mezhirech. His book, Or ha-Me'ir (Korets, 1798), is important for its wealth of material on the history of Hasidism and teachings of its founders. R. Ze'ev criticized the behavior of the zaddikim of his day who had abandoned simple living for luxury. An opponent of noisy prayer, he contended that one should pray with kavvanah, with the object of elevating one's thoughts and realizing one's insignificance: "One ought to pray with fear and reverence and stand upright and not be heard, and only move the lips" (Or ha-Me'ir, Terumah).

בשער: לסדר ולפרט ו’ה’י’ה’ מ’נ’ו’חת’ו’ כ’בו’ד’ [תקנ"ח]. התאריך מזוייף. השער מוקף מסגרת (כמו בהוצאת תקנ"ח האמיתית), ובחלקו התחתון ציור: עציץ עם פרחים.
 
זו ההוצאה השניה. נדפסה דף-על-דף כמו הוצאת קארעץ תקנ"ח.
 
בהסכמות, שהן כמו בהוצאה הראשונה (חמש הסכמות), שינה המדפיס את האיסור להדפיס את הספר שנית: במקום "חמשה עשר שנים" נדפס כאן "משך עשרים שנה". בהסכמות מופיע שמו של ר’ דוב בער מסלאוויטא, המביא לדפוס של הוצאת תקנ"ח, ומכאן שהוא עסק גם בהדפסה של הוצאה זו. בהסכמות שנדפסו בהוצאת פאריצק תקע"ה כותבים המסכימים שההסכמות שנדפסו כאן מזויפות ("טעות נפל בהדפסה"), שכן הרבנים שהסכימו להוצאת קארעץ הגבילו את האיסור לחמש עשרה שנים בלבד, והמדפיס שרצה להרחיב האיסור מעבר למה שקצבו לו, השאיר את התאריך תקנ"ח אך שינה את הכתוב בהסכמה.
 
א’ טויבר, מחקרים ביבליוגרפיים, עמ’ 36-39, סבור שמהדורה זו נדפסה בשנת תקע"ג-תקע"ד. חשש המדפיס שאחרים ידפיסו את הספר עם גמר חמש עשרה שנה מהדפסת ההוצאה הראשונה והאריך את האיסור בחמש שנים. ועיין: גנזי ישראל, מס’ 1140, שלדעתו נדפס הספר בין תק"ס לתקע"ה. מסתבר שאין לאחר את תאריך ההדפסה אחרי תק"ע.
