Detail Description

Only edition of this work on segulot and refu’ot by R. Joshua Jonathon Rubinstein. The title page states that it is a collection of segulot (special cures) and refu’ot (remedies) from practically all the works of such cures, new and old, from various manuscripts, approximately 1,500 segulot from well-known early zaddikim. He has also included necessary laws from the Shulhan Arukh, poskim, and works of mussar. People disparage these; the way of educating children in learning Torah according to our sages and the traditions of our fathers received over the generations going back to Moses and the prayers of Yishma’el Kohen Gadol who promised that whomever says them daily will be delivered from bandits and all evil occurrences. He mentions Rav Hai Gaon and R. Isaac av bet din of Letetshuv in the time of the Ba’al Shem Tov and several works. On the verso of the title page R. Rubinstein informs why he entitled the book Zikhron Ya’akov Yosef, writing “The wisdom of women builds her house” (Proverbs 14:1) praising the worthy woman Rivkah bat Gittel Simat who does kindness with boththe living and the deceased and who provided the means to publish this book in memory of her late husband Jacob Joseph ben David Leib. There are approbations from R. Joseph Hayyim Sonnenfeld, R. Dov Zevi Krelenstein, R. Gershon Judah Zilberman, R. Isaac FrankelR. Joseph Yedid Levi, and R. Isaac Jacob Wachtfogel, and a table of contents listing the numerous segulot in the book. One section addresses instructing children.
