Only edition, quarto [7], 157 ff. 220:155 mm. usual age and damp staining, wide margins. A good copy bound in modern cloth over boards.

A gift to the Talmud Torah of Florence in 1795 with plate on 79v.

 

Detail Description

Only edition of this work comprised of collected selections and interpretive discourses on Tanakh by R. Raphael ben Aaron Yedidah ha-Levi. The title-page describes the author
as the sage “sweeter than honey, than drippings of the comb” (Psalms 19:11) and continues that it is on biblical verses and from there expands to include sayings from the
sages for all who seek parporot for wisdom, riddles, other wondrous material. It is dated with the chronogram “So let him live לו ויחי ויתן, and receive gold of Sheba (536 = 1776)”
(Psalms 72:15). The title-page is followed by an introduction praising the author, a preface from the editor R. Gabriel ben Solomon from Ancona, and then approbations
from TR. Yom Tov Algazi, R. Moses Samuel Ginati, R. Moses Judah Hayyim ben Jekuthiel, R. Isaac Nunis,R. Samuel Shemaya ben Abrham David Papo, and R, Mordecai
Rafael Shimshon Zemah Vitrobo, and R. David Hayyim Hsaan S. T. and then the author’s introduction. The text follows, comprised of three parts, eachwith subject matter
organized alphabetically. The subject matter is numerous and quite varied, encompassing such subjects as meshiah, Mattan Torah, Pidyon, Reshauyim and onesh, Avot and banim,
many many more, also a section with riddles.. There are a number of attractive head and tail-tail pieces as well as several almost full-page illustrations accompanying the
riddles. A much varied, interesting, and thoughtful work.
