Detail Description

Dov Beirush ben Jacob Gottlieb (Gotlib) who lived in the eighteenth century. The title page, printed on glossy paper has two lions in bright yellow at the top holding a bronze colored crown. At the sides are pillars with flames at the top and wreaths at the bottom. In the center is a gold vessel with a flame, above it a rising sun. The text is in red and black letters, stating that it is Sefer Hayyei Olam, of great and exalted value, pure sayings, of great radiance, “with pleasant fruits” (Song of Songs 4:13) with desirable mussar. It informs that the author has covered his glory not revealing his name. However it lists other works written by him, making it possible to identify R. Gottlieb. They are Yad Katanah, Mesilat ha-Da’at, and other titles not listed. There are approbations from R. Moses Teitlebaum (Thursday, 1 Rosh Hodesh Tamuz, 1798), and R. Joseph Saul ha-Levi Nathanson av bet din Lvov (Wednesday, Veyegash 1868). Three memoriam pages follow with the names of people murdered in the holocaust, several dated 1943. The text follows, in a clear and lucid style, set in a single column in rabbinic letters. Friedberg mistakenly attributes Hayyei Olam to Dovbaer Zeitlen and does not record this edition.
