Detail Description

Revised edition of these responsa and novella by R. Abraham Dovber Kahana Shapira. There are three title-pages describing the contents which include responsa, halakhic novella, and explanations of sugyot. There is an approbation from r. Solomon Zalman Sander. The responsa are detailed, the volume concluding with indexes. Sheilot ve-Teshuvot Devar Avraham is considered a classic work.

 

R. Abraham Dovber Shapira was the son of R. Zalman Sender Kahana. He was born in Kobrin in 1871 and was both the grandson and the great-grandson of the rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. He studied in the Volozhin Yeshiva and in 1913 became the head rabbi of Kovno. R. Abraham Dovber Shapira was known as the illui m'kobrin, the genius from Kobrin. Devar Avraham, was published in 1906 when R. Shapira was thirty-five years old He died in 1943 in the Kovno ghetto.
