Rare multi-part work on various aspects of Italian Jewry by R. Mattathiah Nissim ben Jacob Israel Terni. The parts included in this volume address marriage laws, internal disputes, and issues arising among Italian Jewry, and affecting Italian Jewry. An important, if not essential work for students of Italian Jewish history and life.

R. Mattathiah Nissim ben Jacob Israel Terni (c. 1745 - c. 1815) was an Italian rabbi and poet. R. Mattathiah Terni  served was rabbi at Florence, Urbino, Synganglia, and Pesaro, and where he also taught for several years in the beit midrash. In the years 1799-1802 (1799-1802) following Napoleon's conquest, calamity descended on his communities. In 1799 he was banned on suspicion of political involvement and his house was robbed. After a few days he was released. In memory of his rescue and the rescue of the communities, he wrote poems for special 'Purim' days and printed them in the "Madbar Kadesh" booklet. Among his other works are He wrote: "Sefat Emet, halakic decisions (Leghorn, 1797); "Midbar Mattanah,"responsa, in four parts (ib. 1810; the appendix, in Italian, was published at Urbino). A volume of poems by him is entitled "No'am we-Ḥobelim we-Derek Emunah." R. Terni’s plays are steeped in traditional, biblical and Midrashic elements, and are designed according to the conventions of Italian drama and oratorio of the time. Terni's plays represent the Jewish - Italian way of life that merges Torah with Derech Eretz, Judaism with education. They excel in expressive power, aesthetics and original style.
