Detail Description

Rare, apparently first and only edition of these novella by R. Hayyim Joshua ben Zevi Weinberg (d. c. 1930). The title-page describes Otzar ha-Hayyim as the first part - no other parts are known to have been printed – of these deep novella. A flask of sweet nectar. “seven times purified” (cf. Psalms 12:7). To increase light on kisvei kodesh and on the aggadot of the sages, to show the good and righteousness of their holy words, in which nothing shameful has ever been found, all said in holiness. It informs that the book has been entitled Otzar ha-Hayyim because for the initial letters of אוצר  stand for “You א love צ righteousness, and ו hate ר wickedness” (Psalms 45:8) and החיים stands for “the ח goodness of the י Lord מ fills ה the earth” (Psalms 33:5). There are a large number of approbations, from R. Ezekiel ha-Levi Halstak, R. Menahem Mendel Danziger, R. Isaac Zelig Morgenstern, R. Meir Shapiro, R. Joseph Morgenstern, R. Alter Ezriel Meir Eger, R. Zevi Ezekiel Michaelsohn, and R. Hayyim Fuenn. Next is an introduction from R. Moses Menahaem Weinberg, the author’s son, and then the text. At the end of the volume is a three column list, by location, of the names of the individuals who helped sponsor publication.
