Postcard, light age staining, creased on folds, ink on card, neat Ashkenazic script, signed, and dated.

 

Detailed Description   

Letter concerning the divorce of a woman seeking to remarry by R. Shimshon b. Moshe Arenstein (1821-1903), rabbi of Orszkow and Kalisch, prominent Talmudist. He was born in Kempen, and passed on in Kalisch. An erudite scholar he was appointed rabbi of Kalsich in 1881 and served until his passing. The Kalisch pulpit was esteemed and had over the years been served by many notables rabbis R. Solomon Eger (1835 - 1840), R. Zevi Hirsch Hajes (1851 – 1855) and many others.
