Detail Description

Two part novellae on the weekly Torah portion and on tractates by R. Samuel ben Abraham Scheindlinger (Saler). There are a large number of approbations by an introduction from R. Nathan, R. Judah Yudel, and R. Abraham Abele, the first two brothers, the last son of the author. The text follows in two columns in rabbinic letters. The second part of the volume, with its own title page and foliation, is novellae on the Talmud and poskim. It has a single approbation from R. Joseph Saul Nathansohn, who also provided an approbation for the first part, and is immediately followed by novellae on tractate Pesahim. The novellae are on several tractates, concluding with Zevahim and then addenda on several tractates addressed earlier.

R. Samuel ben Abraham Scheindlinger (Saler) was a Polish rabbi; he died in Lemberg Aug. 7, 1796. He was probably a native of Dobromil, and was at first rabbi in Sale and afterward preacher and rosh bet din in Lemberg, where he remained until his death. R. Scheindlinger was the author of "Shem mi-Shemu'el" (Lemberg, 1817), the first part of which contains sermons in the order of the Pentateuch and the second part novellæ on Talmudical subjects. R. Samuel had three sons, R. Nathan Hecht of Yaroslav, R. Judah Idel, and R. Abraham Abele.
